EXCLUSIVE: Deepika Padukone to play Parvati in Brahmastra 2; Will Join Ranbir Kapoor & Alia Bhatt

On February 20, 2021, Pinkvilla exclusively reported how director Ayan Mukerji plans to create his own Brahmastra universe, with several characters getting a spin-off, if the first part directed by Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt is successful. Ayan recently confirmed these plans in an interview. We also revealed that the second part of the film will see the introduction of a new character named “Dev”. And now we have more details on the sequel to this modern mythology.

According to our sources, Brahmastra 2 will feature the story of two key characters – MahaDev and Parvati. “The directors have locked Deepika Padukone in to play the character of Parvati. In fact, Deepika will also make an appearance towards the end of Brahmastra, which will eventually bring the film into part two,” a source familiar with the development revealed, adding although the actress has already filmed for the sequence in question for Brahmastra One: Shiva.

The creators have also cast an actor to play MahaDev, but we wouldn’t want to spoil that for our readers at this point and will give more details on that closer to the movie’s release. Interestingly, the first part is about Shiva. and Isha, which is another name for MahaDev and Parvati. “All the characters are connected. This is Ayan’s own universe deeply rooted in Indian mythology. The world is unlike anything seen before in world cinema,” the source added. Shiva and Isha will also continue to be in all parts of the trilogy. Shah Rukh Khan also has a cameo in Brahmastra One, and he will be seen with special superpowers and an extended action scene, which is best left to be explored on the big screen.

The future of the Brahmastra franchise depends a lot on how the first part is received by the public. Ayan currently has the plan for parts 2 and 3 ready with him, and if the first part is successful, he would take the second on the floors no later than the end of 2023. The team is confident about the outcome of the first part. “Brahmastra was a challenge as an attempt was made to create something unique. The whole team has now hooked up to the technology and therefore the time to make a sequel won’t be as long,” signed the source.

Brahmastra is set to hit the big screen on September 9, 2022. It is expected to be one of the widest releases in Indian cinema, in multiple languages – Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates.
